    Euro area industrial activity stagnates while EU output edges upward 0.2%

    BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / RankWire.AI / – Eurostat’s latest report indicates that industrial output in the euro area remained flat in June 2026 compared to May, whereas the European Union experienced a 0.2% rise in production. These figures were seasonally adjusted and follow a 0.3% monthly increase in both regions during May. Year-over-year comparisons show a 0.1% increase in euro area production and a 0.6% growth across the EU. The data revealed mixed trends across key industrial sectors and member states. The report focuses on industry excluding construction and utilizes adjusted data for monthly comparisons.

    Within the eurozone, non-durable consumer goods experienced the largest monthly boost at 3.0%. Energy output grew by 1.5%, while durable consumer goods production increased slightly by 0.3%. Conversely, capital goods production declined by 1.4%, and intermediate goods output dropped by 0.8%. These movements left the overall industrial production index at 98.7, unchanged from May on a base of 100 for 2021. In May, non-durable consumer goods rose by 3.3%, energy increased by 2.6%, and capital goods grew by 0.5%.

    Across the EU, non-durable consumer goods production saw a 2.5% rise in June, with energy output climbing 1.0%. Durable consumer goods grew by 0.9%, but capital goods production declined by 0.9%. Intermediate goods output fell by 0.7% compared to May. The EU industrial production index reached 101.0 in June, up from 100.8 in May. Starting at 99.2 in January, the index experienced five consecutive monthly increases through June.

    Wide monthly disparities observed among member states

    Denmark posted the largest month-to-month increase among EU nations with available data, rising 5.4% in June. Croatia was next with a 5.2% gain, while Lithuania and Finland each increased by 2.1%. Luxembourg faced the steepest decline at 10.7%, followed by Portugal at 3.9% and Estonia at 2.2%. Germany saw a marginal rise of 0.2%, France remained unchanged, Italy fell by 1.0%, and Spain declined by 0.7%. Ireland experienced a 2.0% rise, whereas the Netherlands dropped 1.7% and Slovenia decreased by 2.0%.

    On an annual basis, industrial production in the euro area grew by 0.1% in June. Intermediate goods increased by 0.4%, energy by 0.9%, and capital goods by 0.1% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, durable consumer goods experienced a 2.5% decline, and non-durable consumer goods decreased by 0.5%. Across the EU, total production was up 0.6% from June 2025, with intermediate goods rising 1.0%, energy up 0.3%, and capital goods gaining 0.9%. Both consumer goods categories, however, saw declines.

    Lithuania records strongest annual growth among member states

    Among countries with available data, Lithuania led annual industrial growth with a 7.7% increase. Denmark followed at 6.1%, and Poland experienced a 4.9% rise. Finland grew by 4.6%, Hungary increased by 4.1%, and Czechia saw a 4.0% gain. Luxembourg experienced the largest annual decrease at 7.9%, with Romania falling 5.6% and Estonia dropping 4.6%. Germany and France each saw declines of 0.5%, Italy fell by 0.6%, and Spain increased by 1.0% compared with June 2025.

    Eurostat also revised its earlier estimates for May’s industrial production. The euro-area monthly change was adjusted to a 0.3% increase, from a previously reported 0.2% decline. The EU’s monthly figure was revised upward to a 0.3% gain from an earlier 0.1% fall. The annual May output was also updated, showing a 0.1% decline for the euro area and a 0.6% increase for the EU overall. Eurostat calculates regional series based on seasonally adjusted national data and estimates recent missing observations when compiling aggregate figures.
