STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – Sweden’s industrial production experienced a 1.5% decrease in June compared to the same month last year, according to official data. Furthermore, after seasonal adjustment, output also fell by 0.4% from May, indicating a softer month for the nation’s industrial sector. Statistics Sweden disclosed these figures in its June Production Value Index report. The industrial index was recorded at 112.4, down from 112.9 in May, with 2021 serving as the reference base of 100.

Sweden industrial output falls as June orders surge
Sweden’s industrial output fell in June while industrial orders recorded strong gains.

This annual decline followed a revised 7.6% rise in May. Manufacturing output declined 1.0% from June 2025, while mining and quarrying dropped 13.8%. On a monthly basis, manufacturing decreased by 0.4%, and mining and quarrying fell by 3.3%. The industry sector held a weight of 20.2% within the broader private-sector measure for 2025, with manufacturing contributing 19.4 percentage points, making it the dominant part of the industrial landscape.

Despite the June downturn, gains from the second quarter remained intact. The average industrial production from April through June was 4.0% higher than the same period in 2025. Seasonally adjusted industrial output also grew by 4.8% from the previous three-month span. Sweden’s wider private-sector output increased by 0.4% from May and 1.8% from a year earlier. This broader measure encompasses industry, services, construction, and certain utility activities.

Contrasting industrial softness with overall production improvements

Services output decreased by 0.2% compared to May but was up 3.0% from June 2025. Construction activity grew by 2.0% month-over-month and 7.6% year-over-year. The services index reached 111.9 in June, compared to 112.1 in May, while construction increased to 94.9 from 93.0. Services represented 67.2% of the broader measure, with construction accounting for 8.4% of it.

Separate data from Statistics Sweden for June revealed that total industrial orders rose by 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment. On a calendar-adjusted basis, orders increased by 29.9% from June 2025. Export orders surged by 56.5% from the previous month and by 57.6% annually. Domestic orders saw a marginal rise of 0.1% from May but declined 7.4% over the year. From January to June, total orders were 4.0% higher than the same period in 2025, with export orders rising by 6.6%.

Export demand climbs while domestic orders decline annually

Transport equipment saw the largest growth among major order categories in June, with orders increasing 101.0% from May and 118.2% from a year earlier. Manufacturing orders grew by 33.2% month-on-month and 31.2% annually. Capital-goods orders rose by 45.5% from May and by 50.7% from June 2025. Conversely, mining and quarrying orders declined by 1.8% monthly and by 19.0% from the previous year.

It is important to note that the production and orders reports measure different facets of industrial activity. The Production Value Index tracks monthly changes in private-sector goods and services production in constant-price terms, whereas the orders series monitors short-term fluctuations in new industrial orders domestically and internationally. New data may lead to revisions of the initial June figures. The upcoming reports are scheduled for September 10 and will include data for July 2026.
